James E. Mathews - Pueblo Chieftain - November 16, 1987 - James E. Mathews was born Nov. 24, 1989, in Kansas City, Kan., and passed away Nov. 1*, 1987, in Pueblo, where he had been a resident since 1919. Brother-in-law of John and Irene Reininger. Brother of Fred Mathews. Uncle of Betty Marie and Walter Ketchem. Also survived by numerous other nieces and nephews. Preceded by his wife Nina E. Mathews in 1974. Service at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, T.G. McCarthy Funeral Home Chapel. Interment, Imperial Memorial Gardens. Respects may be paid at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Monday.

Lena Mathews Obituary (wife of Fred Mathews)

Mathews, Lena Lena Mathews - Pueblo Chieftain - May 21, 2004 - Lena Mathews, age 86, died, May 5, 2004, of a pulmonary embolism at St Mary's Medical Center in Long Beach, Calif. She was born March 29, 1918, in Pueblo, Colo. to Joseph and Virginia (Marino) Angelico. She was raised in Pueblo and graduated from Centennial High School in June, 1936. She married Fred Mathews in June, 1938, divorced in 1960 and remarried Frank Sharp in 1961 and divorced in 1964. Lena was a wife, and mother to her five children and later worked as an LVN at Parkview and Colorado State Hospital. Later she worked at Meals on Wheels and Pueblo Driver's License Bureau through SRDA until she was 80 years and after a fall was unable to continue. She then spent her time at home doing crosswords, tending her plants, and visiting family and friends. She moved to Long Beach in 2001 to be nearer her daughter and son. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara and Dennis Mackewicz of Long Beach, Calif., sons Fred Mathews of San Jose, Calif., David Mathews and Steve and Kim Mathews of Pueblo; her grandchildren Jeffery, Douglas and Benjamin Mackewicz, Greg Mathews, Toni (Mathews) Ruzanski, Steve A. Mathews, and Shannon (Mathews) Teupell and great-grandchildren Taron and George Ruzanski, and Dustin and Chase Teupell. A rosary, on May 12 and a funeral mass on May 13 were held at St. Leander's Church. She was buried at Imperial Memorial Gardens, next to her daughter, Virginia who died in 1973.
